March 29, 2010

Columbia, S.C. – March 29, 2010 -- Storms overnight Sunday left homes and cars damaged in some parts of South Carolina. While the storms' severity fortunately was not widespread, some homeowners did have significant damage.
For car owners, home owners and business owners who have experienced damage, the South Carolina Insurance News Service offers the following tips on how to file an insurance claim after the storm:
1. Survey the damage and notify your insurance agent or company of any losses and leave word where you can be contacted if you are not at home.
2. Make any temporary repairs necessary to protect property from further damage. Keep all receipts for material used.
3. Do not dispose of damaged personal property until an adjuster has had the opportunity to look at it.
4. Photographs or video tape documentation of damaged property is helpful.
5. Find your insurance policy and have your policy number handy when you are ready to make your claim.
