Columbia, S.C. -- June 28, 2010 -- As hurricane season bears down on South Carolina, being prepared is of critical importance. Attached below is a 60-second PSA about hurricane preparedness. The script follows. Feel free to make use of it as you see fit.

Hurricane season is here and experts predict that this will be an active one, with the chance for several storms to impact South Carolina. As our history has taught us, major storms can affect any area in our state. Now’s the time to prepare for the potentially devastating effects of flooding, tornadoes, and power outages. Follow these steps to help make sure you are ready should a major storm strike. First, review your insurance policy with your agent or company to make sure you have enough coverage. Coastal residents may need several policies to protect against different types of losses. Make a home inventory to catalog your possessions and the contents of your home. Store a copy of this inventory away from your home, should you need to evacuate. Next, develop an evacuation plan. If a storm becomes imminent, you and your family should know where to go, what to take with you, and what you can do to protect your home before you leave. Put together a disaster kit that includes drinking water, medications, important documents, toiletries, and other personal hygiene items. For more information, visit scinsurance.net.
